W-10 Science: Grey's Biology

this has crossed a few people's minds in the realm of w-10 followers. basicly the quesiton of "what's up with grey not feeling pain? and how the hell can his dna be like that? thats not possiable."

actually...*fanfare* scientificly, at our current point in time, it is! ^_^

recently scientists successfully replaced key dna elements in a rabbit with those from a bioluminencing jellyfish. the end result was a rabbit which, when exposed to certain lights, would glow green. yes, GLOW GREEN. the rabbit is otherwise completely healthy and normal. (this was done for an artist who wanted the rabbit on display for some odd odd reason). keep in mind, THIS IS REAL.

also taken into account is the method we now use to clone. you all recall dolly? An embryo of which i believe DNA was replaced so that the sheep born was an exact copy of the other. however, this process still needed a surrogate mother. test tube babies are not possiable in the true sense...a live parent is needed.

using this theory, it's not at all unrealistic that we do the same to a human. the rabbit's DNA was altered while it was still an embryo, and so, the time at which human DNA would be altered would be while the child was still in the womb. Grey, before birth, was originally human. using the same technology which was used recently on the rabbit, the Rulerist scientists used more or less a "hit or miss' method with DNA replacement.

Hence, many Inhumans which were born died in birth, or the birth crippled their parents, or they were horrificly deformed. The few human-looking inhumans which were born, though, frequently suffered from illness of both mental or physical realms. Since the rabbit was a mammal and the jellyfish an invertibrate, this proves that the DNA used does not neccicarily have to be from the same genetic group.

the parents used in this method were volunteers, and since the system was extremely stressful and secret they were both well compensated as well as kept anonymous. (so theoretically, grey's mother AND father could still be alive. if tehy're even a couple, or care/know about him is unknown...) The infants were taken away at birth, which often resulted in mental trauma for the mothers.

Of course the melded DNA means the nervous system too would have to be slightly altered. the rabbit which glowed now had a part of its brain devoted to making it glow, which was obviously an alteration from normal rabbits. Grey's nervous system, now tweaked to accomidate not only his energy creation skill (addressed later) but also his abnormal agility, had some shortcomings. birth defects, one could call them. For Grey, there is no threshold stimuli for pain.

what this means is that although he may be burned, (here come the scientific terms) and the denderites in his nervous cells were gathering the information and sending them down to the synaptic end bulbs (little nervy thingies) the bulbs were not firing. Such an intense reaction was needed that his body deemed it a waste of energy and refused to carry the message. Thus, the message of reaching pain never reaches Grey's brain. The imidiate area however, senses the distress and reacts accordingly by bleeding or healing etc. Lower level stimuli, such as taps or brushes, however, are permitted through as the reaction does not require a sudden large amount of energy. Grey can feel things touching him, but not things hurting him.

the generation of energy from his hands can best be explained as Aslilin put it in the story. Each living thing lets off an electromagnetic feild. This can be proven (know them things that make your heart go beep? well, they also have things which make your field go beep. some aquariums keep them near the electric eel exibit.) via various types of machinery. A simple charge tester like the ones the theatre owns can pick up human electromagnetic fields if the two plugs are held.

When animals become upset, stressed, angered or ill, this field changes accordingly. If you can find something to moniter your field, tense your muscles while holding it. Watch the numbers change.

Animals such as electric eels can conduct a large enough amount of this energy to shock an area. They use generators throughout their bodies to do this. Usually the shock remains low, and is used for navigation.

Grey, being blind except to heat impressions as another "birth defect" also generates an abnormally high electromagnetic feild to assist navigation. Without it, he would be unable to sense the proximity of walls, as he can see heat impressions right through them. This is what his body is conserving energy by refusing to fire pain signals for.

As with electric eels, when aggitated or afraid, Grey too can create a sort of shock. the fact that it is red or orb shaped is simply my psychosis, but if in fact Grey existed in reality, it would probobly be much more similar to that of petting a cat whose fur is staticly charged...by a mac truck battery. Needless to say, such an expulsion of energy is a huge drain on his system. So, sometimes after using this sort of attack, Grey is weakened enough to fall or grow faint.

Grey's split personality is more a cause of the psychological abuse as a child than it is his genetics, and as thus, i will leave it to another ranting raving essay.

Thank you all for attending, we still have a few minutes left I see. Any questions?
